A tribute to our friend and fellow board member
Armando Samaniego
It is with great sorrow that we share with you that our close friend and colleague, Armando Samaniego, MD, MBA passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022. Like many others, we are stunned and broken hearted by his untimely and unexpected passing.
Armando was a founding board member of the California Urgent Care Association in 2017, as well as a past officer and a current board member. He was also a board member of Urgent Care Association and became UCA’s President at the UCA convention earlier this month. A graduate of Harvard Medical School, with an MBA from UC Irvine, he practiced emergency medicine in the San Francisco Bay Area before becoming a founder and the Chief Medical Officer of STAT MED, a network of freestanding urgent care clinics in the San Francisco Bay area.
Armando was a smart, warm, vibrant person who was upbeat and enthusiastic about his work and his family. He was truly excited about the contributions he was making to the urgent care world in his leadership roles at UCA and CalUCA.
Armando loved his family above all else. He was devoted to his wife Lissett and their three sons, Gabriel, Daniel & Michael. Two sons attended the Naval Academy and the third is a firefighter. We remember him proudly wearing a shirt, hat, tie, or a pin with Navy, Naval Academy, or fire department insignia.
Our heart goes out to his family, friends, and coworkers at STAT MED. We, like many in the urgent care community, are devastated by his loss and will continue to feel his absence for years to come. Armando will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
